Japan's Kochi Prefecture Agricultural Technology Center successfully cultivated new varieties of eggplant. The new variety is similar in appearance to the average eggplant, but it is brighter. No wild bees and hormonal agents are required for pollination during cultivation, and no greenhouse cultivation is required. The variety has strong adaptability, low cost, time saving and labor saving, but the total output will be reduced by 5 to 10% compared to other common varieties. The new varieties will be further improved to reach the goal of mass listing before 2007. At the tasting meeting for new varieties, outsiders highly evaluated the new varieties, and at the same time, they hoped that the new varieties would reduce the restrictions on the types of pesticides and sowing time and strive to achieve low pesticide production.
