The use of grafted seedlings to cultivate eggplant is an ideal measure to avoid soil-borne diseases caused by continuous cropping. The soil-borne diseases of eggplant mainly include wilt disease, verticillium wilt, bacterial wilt, and root-knot nematode diseases. After grafting, the disease-resistance of plants can be significantly enhanced, so that eggplant has high resistance to or immunity to soil-borne diseases, and chemical reduction is possible. The amount of pesticides used to increase production.
Grafting seedlings combine the scion and rootstock into a complete plant, requiring complete healing of the joints, complete plant appearance, tight internal tissue connections, and unobstructed nutrient and water drainage. Therefore, attention should be paid to the following issues when grafting:
1. Neat place for grafting, suitable temperature and humidity. The operating environment is required to be clean, free from direct sunlight, and less exposed to the outside world. The temperature is between 20°C and 24°C and the relative humidity is around 80%. It usually takes place in a greenhouse or a greenhouse.
2. Grafting blades should be sharp, clean, and the clips should be disinfected. If using a double-sided blade, it should be cut into two pieces along the center line and cut off the parts with no blades at both ends. During the grafting process, it should be kept in a clean place. It must not be soiled.
3. Remove the diseased seedlings. When grafting, prevent the apparatus and operator from spreading the disease, so remove the diseased seedlings before grafting. Grafting utensils and hands should be disinfected with alcohol or potassium permanganate solution. The blade can only be used after dry. Otherwise, the incision will be difficult to heal after being contaminated by water or liquid.
4. When the rootstock is grafted, at least 2 true leaves are kept, and the grafting site is better than 3 cm above the ground. Avoid grafting at the cotyledon site to avoid lowering the interface, and it is easy to be buried in soil after planting.
5. Strictly prevent self-produced roots from scion, keep the grafted area clean, and promptly remove germinated axillary buds on rootstock. When planting, the grafting interface cannot be buried in the soil, and the production of spontaneous roots must be prevented.
The main grafting method:
1. The connection method. Rootstocks should be sown 20 days earlier than the scions, and should be grafted when 4-5 leaves of rootstocks and 3-4 true leaves of scions are introduced. First, rootstock stems were cut at an angle of 5-7 cm from the base of the stem with a blade, and the upper stems and leaves were excised once. Then, a 1-1.2 cm incision was made along the centerline of the stem at the incision. Then the scion retains 1-2 true leaves and is cut into 1-1.2 cm long wedges. The size of the wedge corresponds to the rootstock incision. The scion is inserted into the cut of the rootstock and aligned with a clip. The advantage is that the scion can be used regardless of thick or thin.
2. Sleeve attachment method. When the scion and rootstock both have 2-3 true leaves, the plant height is about 5 cm (traditionally 4-5 leaves, height 12-15 cm) when the grafting. The first internodes of the 0.6-0.8 cm section of the stock cotyledons are chamfered at an angle of 30 degrees, in the same direction as the oblique mouth of the casing, and the scion is cut at the same angle, and the scion is inserted into the casing (special grafting fixing plastic tube) Make the cuts of the rootstock and scion close together.
Compared with the traditional grafting method, casing grafting replaces the inconvenience of using the grafting clip originally, and the rubber sleeve grafting method has good elasticity (shrinkage) and has the advantages of high speed, high efficiency, and simple operation.
