The policy is quite strong against domestic medical devices.

Domestic medical equipment will usher in the market

The high-end medical equipment of domestic hospitals has been “reclaimed” by foreign manufacturers, accounting for up to 90%; low-, small, and miscellaneous domestic equipment dealers have not achieved the expected benefits in the expansion of market space.

In recent years, with the rapid development of China's medical device industry , the industry has also received unprecedented attention and expectations, especially high-performance medical devices, which are listed as “emphasis” and “upgraded” to the national strategic industry. This is not only reflected in the past. Among the 18 documents issued by the country in one year, it was confirmed again at the just-concluded National Conference. Among them, the examination and approval reform of medical devices was included in the government work report for the first time.

Some insiders said that medical device companies may have a wave of counterattacks.

"Off-track" with the high-end market

"The huge consumption base and the government's guiding support provide a fertile soil for the development of medical devices in China." Fu Feng, general manager of Yake Shouji Dental Medical Devices Co., Ltd., said in an interview with the reporter that oral medical devices For example, in the field, as the nationals pay more attention to oral health, this market is showing an accelerated growth trend.

Taking the radiological medical market as an example, as the incidence of cancer in China increases year by year, the compound growth rate of this market will remain close to 30% within 3 to 5 years.

Data show that in 2015, there were about 4.292 million new cases of cancer in China, and 2.814 million cancer deaths, which increased by nearly 1 million compared with 3.372 million in 2014, a year-on-year increase. Medical statistics show that more than 80% of early cancers can be cured, and about 60% of cancer deaths in China can be prevented and avoided, which is higher than in developed countries. Therefore, people in the industry said that PET/CT diagnosis as a means, early diagnosis based on hospitals, physical examination centers and third-party imaging centers will become the main path of cancer prevention and control in China, and there is huge room for future development.

It is reported that there is a big gap between China's radiology field and mature foreign markets. The proportion of patients with radiotherapy is higher in countries with developed economies and advanced concepts. The proportion of patients using radiotherapy in the United States is 63%, which is 43% higher than that of China. The per capita radiotherapy equipment is only 1.1, which is 1/10 of the US, and the per capita possession is 5 to 10 times lower than that of the international. .

The corresponding status quo is that although China's medical device industry has developed rapidly after more than ten years, the situation of small and medium-sized enterprises in the industry has not changed. The pattern of low-, small-, and scattered domestic medical devices is in terms of technology, level, and process. Compared with foreign countries, there is a big gap. A large number of small enterprises in the industry mainly produce low-end products.

Especially in the field of high-end medical equipment, the phenomenon that Chinese medical institutions rely on imports is more serious. High-performance products such as nuclear magnetic resonance and MI are mostly imported, which accounts for 70% of China's high-end medical device products. Some international brands such as GM, Siemens, Philips, etc. have a market share of up to 90%. In the high-end market, 80% of CT, 85% of detectors, and 90% of ultrasound are foreign products.

"As the third largest consumer market in China, the 'derailment' of high-end equipment and the market has not brought high profits to domestic manufacturers. In addition to market factors, there are institutional reasons." Fu Feng said.

Breaking the monopoly of "foreign goods"

In recent years, the medical device industry has received unprecedented attention and expectations, especially the high-performance medical devices have been listed as key development industries, rising to the national strategic level.

"The continued support of the state for the medical device industry has added confidence in R&D investment to enterprises, so that some products in China also have the strength to compete with foreign companies." Fu Feng introduced that from the macro policy point of view, the country The industry's support is unprecedented. The status of the industry has been greatly improved, and import substitution has become a major trend in the development of the industry. Regulations and policies have been introduced frequently, regulations have been aligned with internationalization, and industry supervision has become increasingly strict.

It is reported that the National Health and Family Planning Commission recently announced the "Quality Management Regulations for Clinical Instruments Clinical Trials", which will expel participants with low prices as selling points, extensive testing process and low credibility. This will inevitably squeeze out small-scale, low-tech medical device enterprises, so that the industry tends to concentrate, and promote leading enterprises to technological innovation, transformation and upgrading.

"The more developed the economy, the higher the people's health requirements. This also plays a counter-pushing role in the market terminal, so that enterprises have to consider innovation and development in the competition. The so-called oral equipment, high-end equipment is even more like this." Feng said that it was the decades of medical experience in the dental industry that gave him a "fission" understanding of the industry: traditional dental equipment has too many technical barriers, and as a start-up company Ke Shouji has been recognized by the industry for its innovative concept of “creating the use of disposable dental handpieces to prevent cross-infections such as hepatitis and AIDS”. It is understood that the company's patented "beef tooth disposable dental handpiece" has been sold to more than 20 countries in the United States, Britain and Germany.

Under the influence of various factors, the situation that China's medical devices are monopolized by imported products is expected to be broken.
