The panelists investigated the relationship between the type of macrophage-inducible protein "Lnterleukin-34" and lung cancer cells.

The researchers co-cultured lung cancer cells with anti-cancer agents for 6 months, comparing the remaining drug-resistant lung cancer cells with common lung cancer cells. The investigation found that ordinary lung cancer cells do not secrete interleukin-34, while drug-resistant lung cancer cells secrete a large amount of interleukin-34. Drug-resistant lung cancer cells use interleukin-34 to transform macrophages into types that inhibit immune cell activity, thereby improving their ability to survive.

Mouse experiments have confirmed that by inhibiting the activity of interleukin-34, the therapeutic effect of anticancer drugs on drug-resistant lung cancer cells can be improved.
