Life has the goal "can prolong life"

A study of 7,000 Americans shows that living with goals not only makes people grow older, but it also prevents premature death. The findings were published in the journal Psychological Science.

Studies have shown that this result is applicable to adults of all age groups. The researchers conducted a questionnaire survey of 7,000 American adults between the ages of 20 and 75.

These respondents need to express their consent to the following three statements to assess whether they have a goal in life:

Some people spend their lives without a goal, but I am not one of them;

I only think about the day's things, not thinking about the future;

I sometimes feel that I have done everything I need to do in my life.

Fourteen years later, when they conducted another survey, the researchers found that respondents with goals in life lived longer than other respondents, even if they were affected by negative emotions. In addition, the length of longevity does not depend on the age of the respondents or whether they have retired.

In short, the researchers say, having a goal in life can benefit people throughout their adulthood. Dr. Hill, from the Department of Psychology at the University of Caledon, Canada, says there are goals in life – giving ambitious goals to guide your daily life in many ways.
